Leon G. Nelson, Jr., resident of Charleston, Missouri died Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, Missouri.  He was born August 15, 1973 in Charleston, Missouri to Leon G. Nelson Sr. of Sikeston, Missouri and Hattie Williams Nelson of Charleston, Missouri.

Leon was a 1991 graduate of Charleston High School in Charleston Missouri. During his high school years, he became a good wrestler and fell in love with the sport.

He was a member of Powerhouse Church of Deliverance in Charleston, Missouri under the leadership of Pastor Jessie McNeil.

Leon was a hardworking man that wore many hats. He was employed at Town and Country in Charleston, Missouri, Animal Control at Charleston Department of Public Safety, as a Corrections Officer at Southeast Correctional Center, as a landscaper, and at Storey’s Market.

He was united in marriage to Shelia Valentine in East Prairie, Missouri.

Leon loved reminiscing about his younger years in Charleston, especially his "war stories". He enjoyed wrestling, basketball, baseball, and mac-n-cheese.  His favorite saying was, “I just got off the plane from Chicago." Leon will be truly missed.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Elnora Ware and T.A. Williams, and his close cousin, Thomas Ware

He leaves to cherish his precious memories, his mother, Hattie Mae Nelson of Charleston, Missouri, his father, Leon G. Nelson, Sr., his spouse, Sheila Nelson of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, his sons, Leon G. Nelson III of Atlanta, Georgia, Jeffrey Nelson, Immanuel Nelson, and Stephon Nelson all of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, his sisters, Deloris Bostic and Linda Johnson of Charleston, Missouri, and Sheronda Winston of Jacksonville, Florida, his grandchildren, Ameria Nelson, Immajia Nelson, and Karter Ford-Nelson, his nephew/brother, Ronny Williams, his cousin, James "Pooh" Ware, his best friend, Christopher Booker, an abundance of nephews, nieces, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

Friends may call Saturday, August 21, 2021 from 1:00 P.M. until the funeral hour of 2:00 P.M. at Mercy Seat Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Arthur Cassell officiating.  Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery with the Williams Funeral Homes of Charleston in charge of arrangements.
