Lester Hughes

February 11, 1945 — April 3, 2018

Lester Hughes, 73, resident of New Madrid, Missouri died Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, Missouri.  He was born February 11, 1945 in Phoenix, Arizona to the late Argentry Hughes and Mary  (Hackney) Wiley.

He attended Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Lilbourn, Missouri and was employed for over 15 years at the New Madrid Power Plant in Marston, Missouri until his health failed.

Lester was a direct speaking man who meant what he said.  When he was quiet, he was thinking. Whenever he could find time, Lester enjoyed fishing and hunting.

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by one daughter, Janice Thomas and one brother, Isaac Jones.

He is survived by  two sons and one daughter-in-law, Anthony and Marlana Hughes of Blytheville, Arkansas, and  Quontez Rand of Cleveland, Ohio, two daughters and one son-in-law, Sophia Hughes of Sikeston, Missouri and Shernitha and Alan Patten of Nashville, Tennessee, two brothers, Nathaniel (Gerlinde) Hackney and Robert (Patricia) Wiley, Jr. of Denver, Colorado, four sisters, Sharon Lee Wiley, Micheal Hill, Para Stevenson and, Versie Wiley of Orlando, Florida, five grandsons, Lee Hughes of Sikeston, Missouri, Antonio Westmorland of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Tre Patten of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Al' Mir Patten of Nashville, Tennessee and Tavien Morris of Blytheville, Arkansas, five granddaughters, Tiara Hughes and Tyronee Morris of Blytheville, Arkansas, Jasonee Hughes of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Ah' Mayah Patten of Nashville, Tennessee and La' Daijha Thomas of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, three great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.

Friends may call  Saturday, April 14, 2018 from 11:00 A. M. until the funeral hour of 12:00 noon at Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Marston, Missouri with Reverend Darryl Minner officiating.  Interment will follow in the Mason Cemetery in Point Pleasant, Missouri with the Williams Funeral Home of Howardville, Missouri in charge of arrangements.
