Lionel G. Crenshaw

March 18, 1947 — September 22, 2018

Lionel G. Crenshaw, 71, resident of Charleston, Missouri died Saturday, September 22, 2018 at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, Missouri.  He was born March 18, 1947 in Wyatt, Missouri to the late Allen Jackson and the late Polly Crenshaw Meeks.

Lionel professed hope in Christ and was baptized at Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church in St. Louis, Missouri under the leadership of Pastor Gregory Davis.  He relocated to Charleston, Missouri in October 2012.  Earlier this year, he joined Ollie Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Wilson City, Missouri where he sang in the choir.

He was employed by Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri in the Maintenance Department.  After moving to  Charleston, Missouri, he found gainful employment with the Charleston Public School District and was currently working as a custodian.

Lionel was united in marriage to Linda Mays Foster on November 16, 1989 in St. Louis, Missouri, who survives of the home.  All who knew him, knew his favorite saying, "I love My Linda."

Lionel, affectionately known as Daddy Gene to many and Papa to others, was a nice gentleman who always kept a smile on his face.  He was a kind-hearted, selfless man who loved helping others and loved his cousins as though they were his brothers. He had a great love for his family, especially his four aunts.  He enjoyed entertaining his family and many friends at his home, which he named, "The Ponderosa."

He enjoyed watching football and other sports on TV, planting flowers, doing yard work, playing with his grandchildren and joking around.  The impact he made on others is sure to leave a void that will not be forgotten.

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his sister, Helen Stuckey and a granddaughter, Nikki Crenshaw.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Lionel "Geno"  (Rheamie)  Crenshaw, Jr. of Detroit, Michigan, Diondray (Luvine) Foster of St. Louis, Missouri, Lionel Greer of Charleston, Missouri, and Joseph Shackleford of Carlyle, Illinois, one daughter, Kim Crenshaw of Detroit, Michigan, eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and a host of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Friends may call, Saturday,  September 29, 2018, from 12:00 NOON until the funeral hour of 1:00 P. M. at the Bowden Civic Center in Charleston, Missouri with Reverend Samuel Gibson, officiating.  Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston, Missouri.
