Lommie Lane, Jr.

August 31, 1957 — February 28, 2020

Lommie Lane, Jr. was born August 31, 1957 in Cairo, Illinois to Lommie and Nona  Brewster Lane, Sr.  He was one of three siblings born to this union; two boys and one girl.  His father preceded him in death on September 19, 2005.

He confessed a hope in Christ and was baptized at an early age at Sanders Chapel A.M.E church where he began his Christian journey.  While attending church he served as a deacon and Sunday school superintendent at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church.

Lommie Jr. graduated from Charleston High School in 1975. There he was a member of the basketball team as well as the band. After graduation, he attended Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO). Upon leaving SEMO, he began a 20-year career at Noranda Aluminum in New Madrid, Missouri.

He was married for 15-years to Mary Farries Lane.

He was dedicated to his family and community.    His dedication to his community led him to becoming the Mayor of Wilson City, Missouri.

Lommie Jr.  was a jack of all trades,  a scholar, a poet, and a lover of wisdom.  He loved family gatherings, which often included card playing and occasional singing. His bass voice will be missed.  If the music of his choice were playing, it would be blues, R&B or gospel.  Al Green would be at the top of his playlist. He was a self-taught woodsman, carpenter, home renovator and mechanic. His penny tables were definitely one of a kind. Fishing and reading were also some of his favorite pastimes.  There was no idle time for a man with his magnitude of knowledge. A true renaissance man who was unapologetically himself.

To be in his presence you may have been endearingly called pumpkin head, turkey or a booga wooga. You may have heard him say “They ain’t fed me today,” “Chop Chop,” or “You better know it Doc.”

On February 28, 2020, Lommie entered into eternal rest at the age of 62 years, five months and 28 days. His transition is now complete.

He leaves to cherish his memory and celebrate his homegoing his mother, Nona Lane; siblings, Vallorie Jones and Trent (Tomisha) Lane; two daughters, Sharonda Lane and Linda Lane; three sons, Laneze (Franeece) Lane, Gabriel Beasley and Allanta Maborn;  six grandchildren Wren, Mikyra, Ky’mani, Aubriel, Zakerian, and James; a host of relatives and friends.

Friends may call Saturday, March 7, 2020 from 10:00 A. M. until the funeral hour of 11:00 A. M. at United Methodist Church in Charleston, Missouri with Brother Trent Lane officiating.

Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston, Missouri with the Williams Funeral Home of Charleston, Missouri in charge of arrangements.
