Louis Grant Nelson, 80, affectionately known as "Stovepipe" resident of Cape Girardeau, Missouri died November 27, 2019 at his home. He was born October 13, 1939 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri to the late J. T. Nelson and Elner Miller.
He was a graduate of Cape Central High School in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, class of 1959.
Louis was employed by Rental Land in Cape Girardeau, Missouri where he retired after over 20 years of service.
He was a lifelong member of Second Missionary Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, where he was a faithful member serving on the Usher Board and was a member of the Trustee Board.
Louis shared over 20 years with his soul mate, Betty Frierson.
Louis was a maintenance man and a jack of all trades. He was really good at fixing things. He was very laid back, anything anyone said was good with him. Louis loved fishing, hanging with his buddies and watching television. He was a sports' fanatics. He will be missed.
He is also preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Nelson, his three sisters, Helen Sterling, Mary Lou Reddin, and Elizabeth Nelson, three aunts, Maxine Martin, Virginia Ross and Mary McGee and one stepson, Gregory Hines.
Louis is survived by his soul mate, Betty Frierson of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, one brother, Douglas (Debra) Nelson of Chicago, Illinois, one step son, Gerald Hines of Aurora, Colorado and numerous grandchildren, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
Friends may call Friday, December 6, 2019 from 12:00 noon until the funeral hour of 1:00 P. M. at Second Missionary Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau, Missouri with the pastor, Reverend Cecil B. Thomas, Jr., officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairmount Cemetery in Cape Girardeau, Missouri with the Williams Funeral Home in Charleston, Missouri in charge of arrangements.
