Mack Arthur Smoot was born April 12, 1942 in Scooba, Mississippi. He was the fourth child born to Walter Smoot and Willie Bell Carter Smoot. His loving parents, three siblings, a son, and son-in-law preceded him in death.
Mack attended Morley grade school and Scott County Central High School.
Mack was united in marriage to Aretha Smoot. To this union three loving children were born. Donna Juray (Jessie) Smoot-Green and Daryl Keith Smoot both of Norfolk, Nebraska, and Orlando Terrell (Lawanda) Smoot of Chicago, Illinois. Another child would join this union, Chris (Kenya) Bonner of Chicago, Illinois.
Mack gave his life to Christ and was baptized at an early age. After moving to Chicago, he united with Good News Community Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Katie Moon. There he was ordained as a deacon and completed his trial sermon. He later attended Rising Sun Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend J. Miller. After relocating to Norfolk, Nebraska, he joined First Macedonia Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Jerome Wilson. It was there that he served as a deacon until March 2020, when COVID-19 guidelines began.
He was a hardworking man who held several jobs. He was employed at District Auto as a body and fender man and at A.J Barnes as an armed security officer. He would eventually retire doing what he loved at C&W Auto.
On January 4, 2021, he transitioned into his heavenly home while at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk, Nebraska at the age of 78 years, 8 months, and 23 days.
Mack had twenty grandchildren; Candance (Kevin), Dominique, Kevin, Brittany, Jarvis (Alejandra), Byron, Daryl, Orlando Jr., Orlandis, Devin, Jaydon, Orlan-Dre, Orlan-Tre, Jazzismen, Keith, Kennedy, Kristopher, Kyris, Eboni, and Dominie, six brothers, Willie C. (Ida) Smoot of Niles, Michigan, George (Ollie) Smoot of Marion, Indiana, James G. (Carol) Smoot of Conyers, Georgia, Jesse L. Smoot of Sikeston, Missouri, and Charles Smoot and Hubert (Callie) Smoot both of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, six sisters, Hattie Manuel of Decatur, Georgia, Ella Segers Backus of Oran, Missouri, Jean (James) Green of Allen, Texas, Linda (James) Williams of Haywood City, Missouri, and Laura Williamson and Sally (Gary) Wilson both of Sikeston, Missouri, six great grandchildren, Thaddeus, America, Devin Jr., Khaleesi, Daliha, Kaiya, and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
Friends may call Saturday, January 16, 2021 from 10:00 A.M. until the funeral hour of 11:00 A.M. at New Direction Outreach Ministries in Sikeston, Missouri with Minister James Green officiating and Reverend Alex Sims eulogizing. Interment will follow in J. C. Pullen Memorial Gardens with the Williams Funeral Homes of Sikeston, Missouri in charge of arrangements.
