Mae Alice Tucker

November 3, 1940 — September 26, 2022

Mae Alice Tucker was born November 3, 1940, to the union of John Lee Tucker and Louella (Harris) Tucker in Painton, Missouri.  She was the second child of the nine born to the union; six boys and three girls.  She was preceded in death by her father, John Lee, mother, Louella, brothers, Herman Leo and George Lee and one sister Barbara Jo Tucker.

The family moved to Sikeston, Missouri in 1945 where she attended Sikeston Public Schools and was an active participant in 4-H and received honors and recognitions. She was also a member of the Red Pepper Student Booster Organization.  Upon graduation from high school, Mae Alice attended Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri, where she became a member of the Illustrious women of the Delta Sigma Theta sorority, Inc. and received her bachelor’s degree in Education.  Upon graduation from college, Mae Alice found her love and passion teaching home economics where she taught at Chicago Public Schools for over forty years.

Mae Alice was very active and served on the managerial staff in her condominium community complex where many of the residents and owners sought her counsel and advice.  She was known to family and friends as a counselor.  She would listen to many people’s problems and offer Godly advice and wisdom, but more importantly a listening ear.

Mae Alice accepted Christ as a young child and became a member of First Baptist Church in Sikeston, Missouri.  The name was later changed to West End Baptist Church under the late Reverend Jeremiah Blow.  Mae Alice moved to Chicago, Illinois, where she joined and was very active at First Unity Missionary Baptist Church with her aunt Martha Hayes, her uncles, Johnny B, Joe Nathan Harris and aunts Ethel Harris and Velma (Harris) Cannon and her brother Daniel Tucker and cousins, Gladys (Dot) Thompson and Marvin Harris.  This became the family church for many of the Harris/Tucker family that lived in or visited Chicago.  She served faithfully in various departments within the church including youth director, head of the culinary department, Sunday School teacher and coordinator.  Vacation Bible School director/teacher, and personal advisor to Pastor Jones and Pastor Boyd.

Mae Alice leaves to cherish one daughter Annicia Thompson-Tucker, two special daughters, Anniece Thompson-Williams and Alicia Thompson-Wells, three granddaughters, Brooklynne, Exodus, and Angel, one aunt (Mae)  Harris, four brothers, Daniel Tucker of Chicago, Illinois, John (Janet) Tucker of Orchard Lake, Michigan, Samuel (Louise) Tucker of Hazelwood, Missouri, Jeremiah (Nekita) Tucker of Austin, Texas, one sister, Phyllis Tucker-Wells of Indianapolis, Indiana, one special cousin, Gladys Dorthenia Thompson of Chicago, Illinois, a host of nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.

Mae Alice Tucker was always willing to give and willing to help.  She opened her home to many family members over the years.  She showed immense love and shared her teachings with everyone who was willing to learn. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a describes her best.  Love is patient, love is kind.  It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking.  It is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects always trust, always hopes, always perseveres.  Love never fails.  The love that Mae Alice Tucker gave will never end; it will always remain within our hearts and minds.  Rest in Paradise where there is no more pain, stress, or disappointment…for Mae Alice Tucker has gained her crown.
