Magdalene Anita Newman, 75, resident of Sikeston died, Thursday, May 24, 2018 at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, Missouri.  She was born December 25, 1942 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri to late William Lafayette Johnson and Edythe Marcell Runnels Johnson,

Anita dedicated her life to Christ at an early age and was currently a member of St. James AME Church in Cape Girardeau, Missouri and attended West Side Baptist Church in Sikeston, Missouri.

She was a graduate of John S. Cobb  School in Cape Girardeau, Missouri and attended Southeast Missouri  State University in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

She was also employed by Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Missouri as a Financial Aid Advisor for over 20 years until her retirement.

Anita became a member of the Order of Eastern Star Central Star #114 on June 19, 1995 and joined Heroines of Jericho on April 30, 2001.  She served as the Most Ancient Matron and was currently serving as Grand Chaplin of the Grand Court Heroines of Jericho under Blanche B. Hill Court #43.

Anyone who knew Anita, knows that she never met a stranger.  Her bubbly personality lit any room that she walked into.  She loved unconditionally and touched the hearts of many people. Anita had a heart of gold and will be deeply missed.  She was a woman who blessed many, and was loved by all.

In addition to her parents, she is also  preceded in death by two brothers, three sisters, one step son,  and one grandson

She is survived by her loving and caring husband, Henry  T. Newman of Sikeston, Missouri, two sons and one daughter-in-law, Dwight (Tameka) Boyd of Fort Worth, Texas, and Anthony Taylor of Camdenton, Missouri, four daughters and two sons-in law,  Jaquelene Boyd  Jones of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Renee (Tim) Davis  and Anickia (Melvin)  Hubbard of Clarksville, Tennessee, and Judy Taylor of St. Louis, Missouri, one step daughter, Yvette Robinson of  Elgin, Illinois, two brothers, Richard Lee Johnson of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and William Jerome Johnson of St. Louis, Missouri, three sisters, Mary Francis Lynch of St. Louis, Missouri, Joan Marlene King of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Lydia J. Kinder of Cleveland, Ohio, 17 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces and many other relatives and friends.

Friends may call Saturday, June 2, 2018 at the Christ Church of the Heartland in Cape Girardeau, Missouri from 12:00 noon until the funeral hour of 1:00 P.M. with Reverend Howard McGee officiating.  Interment will follow in the Fairmount Cemetery in Cape Girardeau, Missouri with the Williams Funeral Home of Sikeston, Missouri in charge of arrangements.
