Marilyn Josephine Sides Morrison, 86, resident of Cape Girardeau, Missouri died February 19, 2021 at Hunter Acres Caring Center in Sikeston, Missouri. She was born on July 6, 1934 in Allenville, Missouri to the late David and Ora Bell Pettit Sides.
Marilyn was one of the "Twins" as they will forever be remembered. The late David Wilson Sides and the former Ora Bell Pettit proudly welcomed the latest additions to their union of thirteen children.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, David and Ora Sides, eight siblings, Justine, Pearl, Marjorie, Raymond, Wilson, Lee, Robert, and her twin "Carolyn." (Four brothers and sisters preceded her in death at birth.) One son also preceded her in death, Lawrence Calvin Sides, and one grandson, Jesus Sides. She was married to the late Jerry Morrison.
Her heart was heavy in recent months, as she realized she was the last one from a family of so many. Marilyn was a proud woman, something that had been instilled in her as a child and she passed that on to her children. She boldly would let you know she was a "Sides, daughter of David and Ora Sides."
Marilyn loved to tell her many nieces and nephews about growing up in Good Hope Alley; she was a colorful storyteller. Yes, a product of Good Hope Alley!
She reached for the stars in everything she did. She loved when family was all around and would break out in song with one of the old Gospel Hymns. Marilyn enjoyed life to the fullest and did things unapologetically "Her Way."
Family was a sense of pride and an accomplishment to Marilyn. She was a gifted singer and was asked to sing professional backup with groups such as Tyrone Davis, but turned them down to be with her children and for lack of interest in singing for a living.
Being with family was important to her. Nothing made her happier than an upcoming Family Reunion. She was a member of the New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church and attended Cobb School. She was a grandmother and a great grandmother affectionately called Nana by each of them.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory two sons and two daughters, Howard Eugene Sides of Battlecreek, Michigan, Jerome Sides, wife, Estelita of Chicago, Illinois, Sylvia Sides and Tosha Stevenson, husband, Ron of Cape Girardeau, grandchildren, Dionysia Richardson-Smith, Alan Jerome Sides, Abdula Sides, Brooks Sides, Solomon Sides, Aerial Brown, Felecia Smith, Marquise Smith, Roneisha and Deron Stevenson, great grandchildren, Erica Sides, Alan Jerome Sides II, Abdula Sides, Jr., Adraious Sides, Damian Sides, Avonna Sides, London Wilson, Brooklyn Sides, Peyton Kieninger, Britain Sides, Maicee Sides, Daylia Sides, Karsen Pierce, Remmie Sides, and Martavion Curry, and a host of nieces, nephews, many relatives and friends.
Friends may call Saturday, March 20, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. until the funeral hour of 12:00 noon at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau, Missouri with Pastor Joseph G. Cotton, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Fairmount Cemetery.
