Martha Green, 72, resident of Charleston, Missouri died December 29, 2019 at the Charleston Manor Nursing Facility in Charleston, Missouri. She was born December 21, 1947 in Charleston, Missouri to the late Manuel and Margrett Dickson Clemons.
Martha attended Mercy Seat Missionary Baptist Church in Charleston, Missouri where she confessed her hope in Christ at a young age. After settling in the Chicago, Illinois area, she became a member of New Life Evangelical Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board for many years.
She attended Lincoln School in Charleston, Missouri, and later received an Associate Degree at Northeastern University in Chicago, Illinois in Early Childhood Education.
On March 27, 1969, Martha was united in marriage to L. A. Green in Chicago, Illinois who survives of the home. To this union, one son was added, Ondray Green.
Martha's traveling gave her the opportunity to work in a variety of places, including teaching school in Baltimore, Maryland, housekeeping in Chicago, Illinois where she took pride in her work, General Electric Company and the South Shore Drill Team, both also located in Chicago, Illinois. She designed the uniforms for the South Shore Drill Team, and she enjoyed doing so, because her son, Ondray, and her nephews and nieces were a part of the team. She did this until her health began to fail.
She loved sewing, singing, and teaching children where she was known as a disciplinarian. She also loved gardening and definitely had a "Green Thumb". She always grew a garden, even in Chicago. Her presence will be greatly missed.
In addition to her parents, Manuel and Margrett Dickson Clemons, she is preceded in death by her son, Ondray Green, two brothers, Herbert Clemons and Willie Clemons, two sisters, Geneva Clemons and Laura Louis Browning, five brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law.
She is survived by her husband, L. A. Green of Charleston, Missouri, one brother, Clifford Clemons of Chicago, Illinois, three sisters, Albirdie Clemons Shaw of Sikeston, Missouri, Betty Clemons Hill of Chicago, Illinois, and Shirley Clemons Johnson of Charleston, Missouri, two grandsons, DeOndray Green of Chicago, Illinois and Anton Carr of Detroit, Michigan, one daughter-in-law, Sharon Williams Green of Chicago, Illinois, three brothers-in-law, Levoy Green, David Green and Fredrick Green of Memphis, Tennessee, two sisters-in-law, Shirley Jones of Chicago, Illinois and Patricia Ann Green of Forrest City, Arkansas, a special daughter/niece, Yaszmin Clemons of Charleston, Missouri and a host of other relatives and friends.
Friends may call Saturday, January 11, 2020 from 12:00 noon until the funeral hour of 1:00 P. M. at Mercy Seat Missionary Baptist Church in Charleston, Missouri with Pastor Arthur Cassell officiating.
Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston with the Williams Funeral Home of Charleston in charge of arrangements.
