Mary Drewcella Lawrence, 48, affectionately known as "PooPie", resident of Charleston, Missouri died Saturday, April 27, 2019 at the Missouri Delta Medical in Sikeston, Missouri. She was born February 8, 1971 in Charleston, Missouri to the late James Clark and Verlene Lawrence.
Mary accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized while attending Perry Chapel AME Church in Charleston, Missouri.
She attended Charleston Public Schools and was a member of the 1989 graduating class. Mary was active in band, and enjoyed playing the clarinet.
After graduation Mary moved to Bloomington, Illinois where she was a manager at Kentucky Fried Chicken. She was also employed as a social worker and worked at a factory.
She moved back to Charleston, Missouri in 2009. She began working at Family Dollar in 2013, where she was currently the manager. She was also an active member of the Night Owls Motorcycle Club.
Mary was well known and well liked. Upon being hired at the Family Dollar Store, she soon became known as Miss Family Dollar to many. Her warm friendly smile and the ringing of her "Good Morning" as customers came into the store no matter what time of the day earned her that title. She was known to be very helpful and outspoken.
PooPie knew the history of Charleston like the back of her hand and was our go to person for information. She loved playing cards and the lottery. She will be greatly missed.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two sisters, Carol Jeanette Lawrence and Terri JoAnn Lawrence, and one niece, Eboni Lawrence.
Mary was blessed to be the mother of her one and only child, her pride and joy, Kingston Lawrence of the home. In addition, she is survived by four brothers, Lonnie (Christie) Lawrence of Monee, Illinois, Eric Lawrence of Sikeston, Missouri, Chris Lawrence of Norfolk, Virginia and James Lawrence of Charleston, Missouri, one sister, LaQuita Lawrence of St. Louis, Missouri and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Friends may call Saturday, May 11, 2019 from 11:00 A. M. until the funeral hour of 1:00 P. M. at the Clara Drinkwater Newnam Auditorium in Charleston, Missouri with Superintendent Steve Betts, officiating.
Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston, Missouri.
