Mary Lee Riggin, 87, resident of Charleston, Missouri died October 19, 2022. She was born July 14, 1935 in Wyatt, Missouri to the late Orange and Luella Neal Riggin.
Mary was a member of Mercy Seat Missionary Baptist Church where she served as an usher.
She enjoyed cooking. She was a great cook and would feed anyone who was hungry. Mary was employed as a cook at several restaurants. She loved gardening, planting flowers, playing lottery, collecting items of her choice, and giving advice and counsel (even if you didn't ask for it).
She was not a woman of few words and spoke her mind. She loved talking to people and socializing. She was an amazing mother, grandmother, and caretaker. While employed at Charleston Manor Skilled Nursing Facility as a Certified Nursing Assistant many years ago, Mary used her many skills. She always made sure her family and friends were taken care of. She was well known by many in the community and loved by many. She was a mother, Big Mama, auntie, and affectionately known as "Ms. Mary." She will truly be missed by all.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her children, Beverly Horton, Carolyn Horton-Lyons, and Evelyn Horton, her siblings, Samuel Riggin, Charlie Riggin, Ivory Riggin-Kent, and Rosie Riggin-Johnson, her granddaughters, Michelle Horton and Amber Johnson, her great granddaughter, R’Shaunti Parham, and special friend, Elbert Horton, Sr.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories her sons, Charles Bankhead of Springfield, Illinois, Elbert Horton, Jr. of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and David Riggin of Charleston, Missouri, her daughters, Audrey (Norris) Riggin-Johnson and Maggie Horton both of Charleston, Missouri, and Glenis Riggin of Memphis, Tennessee, her sister, Mable Riggin-Horton of Orlando, Florida, nine grandchildren, including Anthony Horton who she raised as her own, and a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
