Ola Mae Johnson Owens, 92, resident of Charleston, Missouri died on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 in her home. She was born December 28, 1929 in Luxora, Arkansas to the late Benjamin and Georgia Tate Johnson.
Ola Mae was a member of Mercy Seat Missionary Baptist Church and served on the Mother’s Board. She enjoyed attending church and listing to gospel music.
We will miss hearing her say, “Oh Lord have mercy.”
She was married to Eugene Owens for many years. He has preceded her in death.
Ola Mae was family oriented. She looked forward to spending time with her children and grandchildren. She would spend her free time fishing and doing crossword puzzles. She liked hearing others sing and the blues.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her children, Willie Owens, Margie Johnson, Georgia Mae Owens, Elizabeth Ann Owens, Charles Owens, and infant twins, Eugene and Gene Owens.
Ola Mae is survived by three sons, Walter Lee Owens II of Chicago, Illinois, Jessie Lee Owens of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Tommy Owens of Charleston, Missouri, five daughters, Carla Marie Shaviss and Debra Faye Owens of Charleston, Missouri, Maxine Riley Johnson and Patricia Ann Owens of Chicago, Illinois, and Gloriastine Johnson of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, her sister, Elizabeth Jackson of East St. Louis, Illinois, stepsister, Teretha Marshall of Blytheville, Arkansas, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, great great great grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Friends may call Friday, August 5, 2022 from 11:00 A.M. until the funeral hour of 12:00 noon at Mercy Seat Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Arthur Cassell officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery with the Williams Funeral Homes of Charleston in charge of arrangements.
