Percy L. Ivy, 83, resident of Charleston, Missouri, died Thursday, August 17, 2023. He was born January 3, 1940 in Charleston, Missouri to the late Elder Berry B. and Lula (Scaife) Ivy.
He attended Lincoln School in Charleston, Missouri.
He married the love of his life, Annie Jane Branigan on May 22, 1976 at Church of God in Christ in Charleston, Missouri.
Percy gave his life to the Lord under the leadership of Bishop James Whitfield for many, many years. At the time, the church was Holy Trinity Church of Deliverance. After Bishop James Whitfield became ill, he made Assistant Pastor Jesse McNeil the pastor where Percy served many years. Later on, Pastor Jesse McNeil changed the church name to Powerhouse Church of Deliverance. After Pastor Jesse McNeil’s passing, Elder Richard Wilson was made Pastor of Powerhouse Church of Deliverance. Percy served as a deacon and Sunday School Superintendent. Some of his many pleasures were keeping the church clean, mowing the church yard, and painting the church.
He was employed for 33 years as a custodian of Charleston R-1 School District. Prior to relocating to Charleston, he was in business with his brothers in Chicago. They did contract work as painters. Percy was also employed at department stores including Sears, Roebuck & Company in Charleston and Knights Department Store in Kennett, Missouri where he drove the bob truck. He enjoyed doing landscaping as well. He did yard work for Mr. and Mrs. Knights and The Gooding family. Percy was a hardworking man.
Percy loved fishing so much that if he could go every day he would have. He enjoyed his gospel music and occasionally would watch basketball and western movies on television.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by four brothers, Selonia Ivy, Joe Nathan Ivy, Elder Ernest Ivy, and John A. Ivy, and four sisters, Thelma Offord, Marie Ivy, Lessie Mae Ivy, and Amelia Ivy.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Annie Jane Ivy who survives of the home, two sons, Kevin Emmanuel of Wilson City, Missouri and Brent Emmanuel of St. Joseph, Missouri, two daughters, Lacosta Ivy of Charleston, Missouri and Cassandra (Corey) Ivy Wilson of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, one brother, Ervin (Rose) Ivy of Hopkins Park, Illinois, 13 grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Friends may call Saturday, August 26, 2023 at 12:00 noon until the funeral hour of 1:00 P.M. at the Bowden Civic Center in Charleston, Missouri. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Charleston with the Williams Funeral Homes in charge of arrangements.
