Richard Edward Murray, 80, was born February 10, 1941 in Thompson Bend, Missouri to the late Luther and Rudell Murray. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three brothers; Luther Murray, George Murray and John Murray, three sisters; Katherine McCauley, Estella Coleman and Ruby Johnson, and three grandchildren; Lonnie Johnson Jr., Shenee’ Jennings and Thomas Murray Jr.
Richard was a farmer all his adult life until he retired in 2019. He farmed with the Rowling Brothers, and the Moxley and Lankheit Farms.
Richard often spoke about the “Man Upstairs” with whom he said he talked with through-out his life.
Richard was a simple man. He loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. His job of farming was a source of enjoyment for him. He loved to just “piddle around”. Richard did not meet a stranger. He would talk to and help anyone at any time. Richard was a kind, meek and loving man who loved his family.
On February 9, 1964, he was united in holy matrimony to Martha Lane Fisher. Six children were born to that union, five daughters and one son.
Richard peacefully departed this life on Friday, October 1, 2021 at the age of 80 years, 7 months and 22 days.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Martha Murray of Charleston, Missouri, five daughters, Lorrann (Reginald) Oliver of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Barbara Louise Fisher (Will), Jessica Pratt, Patricia Murray and Amanda (Mozell) Sherrell all of Charleston, Missouri, one son, Thomas (Flora) Murray of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, two brothers; Norman Murray and Harry Murray, two sisters, Edna Campbell and Gloria Murray, 17 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, and a special friend, Leon West of Sikeston, Missouri.
Friends may call Saturday, October 9, 2021from 2:00 P.M. until the funeral hour of 3:00 P.M. at St. Matthews Full Gospel Missionary Baptist Church in Charleston with Dr. Henry L. Clark, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. The Williams Funeral Homes of Charleston is in charge of arrangements.
