Robert Eugene Betts

Robert Eugene Betts was born November 10, 1951 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri to R B Betts and Mary Mollie Peterson. He was blessed to be raised by Ethelee Weekley who preceded him in death. Robert was also preceded in death by his sisters, Minnie Louise Russell and Phyllis (Pat) Rosetta Betts. Robert was a 1967 graduate of St. Pius High School in Crystal City, Missouri. Upon graduation, Robert went to the University of California-Berkeley where he received a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. He and the love of his life, Sandy Gibbons, were united in marriage in Sikeston, Missouri. He went on to serve his country. Robert enlisted in the United States Navy from 1970-1974. After representing his country during the Vietnam Era, he was honorably discharged. Once his military career ended, he served as a United States federal marshal. Robert ultimately retired after spending many years driving trucks. In his free time, he enjoyed watching movies and being with his granddaughters. Robert will be truly missed. On Friday, September 9, 2022 at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, Missouri, Robert went to be with Lord at the age of 70 years, nine months, and 30 days. He leaves to cherish his precious memories his wife, Sandy Betts of Sikeston, Missouri, his son, Ben (Misti) Davis of Sikeston, Missouri, his daughter, Ashley (Rick) Lewis of Sikeston, Missouri, his sisters, Betty Jean Avant of St. Louis, Missouri, Gloria Dene Avant of Marianna, Arkansas, and Ollie (Duke) Lewis Nelson of Lansing Michigan, 15 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, and friends. A memorial service will be held Thursday, September 22, 2022 at 1:00 P.M. at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri, 17357 Stars and Stripes Way, in Bloomfield, Missouri 63825. Full military honors will be accorded. The Williams Funeral Homes of Charleston is in charge of arrangements.
