Rosemary Smith

June 9, 1934 — August 17, 2024

Rosemary Dixon Smith was called to rest August 17, 2024 while a patient at Clearview Nursing Center in Sikeston, Missouri.

Born June 9, 1934, she was the 11th of 13 children to the late Ozark and Essie Martin Dixon. She received her education in the Thompson Bend and Charleston School Systems.

She was united in marriage to Preston Smith in 1967. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three sisters, and nine brothers.

She professed a hope in Christ at an early age and united with Opportunity Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Pastor Elijah Betts. She later united with Soul Revival Church in Chicago, Illinois under the leadership of Reverend Henry Rucker, then she moved back home to Missouri under the leadership of Pastor David L. Fuller Jr. of Temple of Praise and Deliverance Full Gospel Church of Sikeston, Missouri. Rosemary loved church and serving the Lord. Anything that was needed, she did.

Rosemary was a people person and a natural caregiver. There wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for those she loved. That devotion carried over into her work life. She was employed as a nurse for many years while in Chicago.

Cooking was a passion for Rosemary. She cooked for everybody. She owned and operated her own snack shop. She was a jack of all trades with a beautiful heart. She would always say, “I’m hopping but I ain’t stopping” and “I’m too blessed to be stressed”. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She leaves to cherish her memory three children, Howon Pottinger of Sikeston, Missouri, Myqueen and Myprincess Dickens of Washington, D.C., and many loving and devoted nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Friends may call Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. until the funeral hour of 12:00 noon at Opportunity Church of God in Christ in Charleston, Missouri. Interment will immediately follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Charleston with the Williams Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
