Roy Lee Johnson, 61, resident of Charleston, Missouri, died Friday, February 10, 2023 at Charleston Manor Skilled Nursing Facility. He was born July 16, 1961 to the late Jerry Ware and Odessa Jennings Johnson. He attended Charleston Public Schools in Charleston, Missouri. On September 11, 1979, he enlisted in the United States Army. While there, he served as a Cannon Crewman for two years and nine months. During his duty, Roy Lee received the Humanitarian Service Ribbon, the Army Service Ribbon, Marksman (Rifle M16), and 1st Class (Hand Grenade). He served his country faithfully and received an honorable discharge. Roy Lee was a talented artist that had a passion for drawing. He loved to dress and take pictures. His favorite line was “Who hotter than me”. He always had a good time, dancing to his own beat. Roy Lee was the life of the party. He leaves to cherish his precious memories his sons, Roy Antonio Johnson and David Hopkins both of Herrin, Illinois, and Andrew Johnson of Marion, Illinois, his daughters, Jameka (Stacy) Johnson of East Prairie, Missouri, and Rachel Hopkins of Herrin, Illinois, two brothers, Bobby Johnson and Greg Johnson both of Charleston, Missouri, two sisters, Vanessa (Henry) Davis of Charleston, Missouri and Iona Johnson of Fort Wayne, Indiana, 25 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, his special friend, Michelle Jackson of Charleston, Missouri, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Roy Lee is preceded in death by five brothers, Rodney Johnson, George Johnson, Jerome Marshall, Jimmy Lee Johnson, and Elmer Johnson, and two sisters, Rozella Peterson and Marylin Lawrence. Friends may call Friday, February 17, 2023 at 12:00 noon until the funeral hour of 1:00 P.M. at the Abundant Life in Christ Missionary Baptist Church in Charleston, Missouri with Pastor Veronica Dunigan of Nail Ministries officiating. Interment will immediately follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Charleston with full military honors. The Williams Funeral Homes in charge of arrangements.
