Ruby Jean Townsend

August 27, 1942 — May 28, 2021

Ruby Jean Townsend, affectionately known as Lil Sis, was born August 27, 1942 in Tiptonville, Tennessee to the late John Ralph and Bessie Davy Hart. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two sons, Robert Charles Townsend and Lawrence Calvin Townsend, and one daughter, Nicholetta Rochelle Townsend, five brothers, James Hart, John Ralph Hart, Jr., Robert Dean, John Edward Hart, and Herman Dean, and one sister, Bernice West.

Ruby loved the Lord. She was a member of St. Matthews Missionary Baptist Church.

Ruby was united in marriage to L.C. Townsend in Charleston, Missouri.

After her father passed, she became the caretaker of her brother, James “Sonny Boy” Hart until his passing. Ruby loved her family. She enjoyed fixing her home and planting flowers in her yard. In her spare time, she could be found doing crossword puzzles. She will be truly missed.

On Friday, May 28, 2021, Ruby answered the call of our Almighty God while at her daughter’s home in Cape Girardeau, Missouri at the age of 78 years, nine months, and one day.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories three sons, Danny Ray Hart of Charleston, Missouri, John Fitzgerald Townsend of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and Caesar Romero Townsend of Chicago, Illinois, two daughters, April Renette (Dawonn) Taylor of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and Bessie Vanessa (Mike) Tarver of Charleston, Missouri, one sister, Flora Haslett of Chicago, Illinois, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, her closest cousin, Brenda Dean of Hickman, Kentucky, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Friends may call Thursday, June 3, 2021 from 11:00 A.M. until the funeral hour of 12:00 noon at St. Matthews Missionary Baptist Church in Charleston, Missouri with Pastor Floyd Wade officiating.  Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery with the Williams Funeral Home of Charleston in charge of arrangements.
