Shirley Jean Clemons Johnson

June 20, 1953 — December 9, 2021

Shirley Jean (Clemons) Johnson was born June 20, 1953 in Charleston, Missouri to Manuel Clemons and Margrett (Dickson) Clemons. She was one of nine siblings, three boys and six girls. Her husband Jimmy Johnson, her parents, two brothers: Herbert Clemons and Willie Clemons, three sisters: Geneva Clemons, Laura Louise (Clemons) Browning, Martha Ann (Clemons) Green, six brothers-in-law, and one sister-in-law have all preceded her in death.

Shirley attended and was a devoted member, and Mother at Mercy Seat Missionary Baptist Church in Charleston, Missouri where she confessed her love for Christ at a very early age.

She attended Lincoln School in Charleston, and later graduated from Charleston High School.

Shirley loved to travel and spend time with family. Her greatest love was caring for others. Shirley was a care giver to the young and old for over 40 years of her life. Her presence, wisdom, and heart of love will be greatly missed. Jean is the definition of selfless, and she did everything with love and God’s word.

Shirley leaves to cherish her precious memories three sons: Jimmy and Melissa Clemons of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Mario Clemons of Chicago, Illinois, and Decarlos Clemons of Champaign, Illinois. Three daughters: Nonyumeka Clemons, and Shalonda Clemons of Charleston, Missouri, and Yaszmin (Clemons) Rodgers of Nashville, Tennessee. A special son in law, Adrian Rodgers Sr. One brother, Clifford Clemons of North Riverside, Illinois, two sisters: Albirdie (Clemons) Shaw of Sikeston, Missouri, and Betty (Clemons) Hill of University Park, Illinois, and one sister-in-law, Bonnie Clemons of Cape Girardeau, Missouri.  She leaves to cherish her precious memories 30 grandchildren (A grandson she raised Armster Robinson III), 23 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends. Two very special friends Taffy Clark, and Teresa Hedgewood.

Shirley is gone from this earth, but she will never be forgotten in our hearts.

Friends may call Sunday, December 19, 2021 from 2:00 P.M. until the funeral hour of 2:30 P.M. at Mercy Seat Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Arthur Cassell officiating.  Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery with the Williams Funeral Homes of Charleston in charge of arrangements.
