Southern Jones, Jr., 77, resident of Sikeston, Missouri died Tuesday, February 8, 2022 in his home. He was born January 26, 1945 in Tiptonville, Tennessee to the late Southern Jones, Sr. and Arzalia Haley Jones. He was one of 13 siblings.
Southern attended Grand Avenue Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Charleston, Missouri where he had a strong faith in God.
He married Alice L. Henry Jones on December 24, 1965. From that union five children were born.
Southern was a hard-working man, who took pride in providing for his family. At one time, he was employed by three different companies simultaneously. He once ran a taxi service in the city of Sikeston, but he was passionate about being a short order cook. He instilled this strong work ethic in all of his boys.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by four daughters, Jamie D. Jones, Sharenda U. Jones, Sherry Wallace, and Jessica Hayward, and one sister, Patsy Ann Bradley.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories, his five sons, Solomon (Chalanda) Jones of Wyatt, Missouri, Marvin L. Jones of Bertrand, Missouri, Lemondray (JeTaun) Jones of Kansas City, Missouri, Johnathan Hayward of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and Cordell Perry of Chicago, Illinois, seven brothers, Fred Lee Wims and Leon Jones of Sikeston, Missouri, Bobby (Pamela) Jones, Larry (Tonya) Jones, Joe Lee Jones, and Tony Rice of St. Louis, Missouri, and Richard Jones of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, five sisters, Brenda Jones of Sikeston, Missouri, Annette Jones, Helen Allen, Maggie Sue Jones, and Ailene Straughter all of St. Louis, Missouri, a special friend Tracy B. Steward of Sikeston, Missouri, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, February 20, 2022 at 12:00 noon at the Bowden Civic Center in Charleston, Missouri with Pastor Jessie McNeil officiating.
