Sylvester Fredrick Banks

January 4, 1964 — July 20, 2018

Sylvester Fredrick Banks, 54, resident of Austell, Georgia, formerly of Charleston, Missouri, died Friday, July 20, 2018, at his sister's home in Cape Girardeau,  Missouri.  He was born January 4, 1964 in Wyatt, Missouri  to the late Sylvester and Sally Reed Banks.

Sylvester believed that Christ was his savior and was  baptized at Mount Hope Baptist Church in Deventer, Missouri at the age of nine.

He was a graduate of Charleston High School class of 1982 in Charleston, Missouri where he excelled in football, track and baseball.

After graduation, he joined the United States Marine Corp where he lived in Camp Pendleton in San Diego, California.  He served from June 8, 1982 to February 14, 1992 and received an honorable discharge.  While serving, he became a Rifleman Coach for over nine years and a Marksmanship Instructor for over five years.  He also  took courses in Noncommissioned Officer Leadership and Squad Leaders and was a drill sergeant.  He received four Good Conduct Medals, two Sea Service Deployment Ribbons, Letter of Appreciation, two Overseas Service Ribbons,  a Certificate of Commendation Combat Action Ribbon, four Meritorious Masts and four Rifle Expert Badges.  He also served in Desert Storm.

Sylvester loved to travel and knew the highway like the back of his hand. He lived in many different places including, Garrison, Texas, Oceanside, California, Sikeston, Missouri, Chicago, Illinois, Okinawa, Japan, Dexter, Missouri, Austell, Georgia, Guam,  and in several overseas places.  He was also employed at a number of places including,  J M Clipper, Nestle Purina, and Trimac Transportation.

Sylvester was a very intelligent man, who also loved joking around with a smile that left a lasting impression.  He was also an avid hunter and fisherman. His love for his family will long be remembered as well as that infectious smile.

He is survived by one son and one daughter-in-law, Marcus and Crystal Banks of Douglasville, Georgia,  two daughters, Delecia Dunnigan of Charleston, Missouri and Sailmia Banks of Jacksonville,  North Carolina, one step-son, Landy "Lambo" Maddox of Chicago, Illinois, four brothers, Timothy Banks of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Michael Banks of Austell, Georgia, Carlos "Tony" Banks of Wyatt, Missouri, and Richard (Peggy) Douglas of West Memphis, Arkansas, one sister and brother-in-law, Yvette Nicole and Anthony Robinson of Cape Girardeau, Missouri , seven grandchildren, his soul mate, Annette Maddox of Chicago, Illinois, a special friend, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be Saturday, July 28, 2018 at 1:00 P. M. at Faith Temple Church of God in Christ in Wyatt, Missouri with Elder Elvin Greer, officiating.  Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Charleston,  Missouri.
