Thomas Eugene Johnson, 60, resident of Charleston, Missouri, died Thursday, February 13, 2025 while at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. He was born July 19, 1964 in Tiptonville, Tennessee to the late Thomas Eugene Huggins and Johnnie Mae Johnson Rowe of Charleston. In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his stepfather, Hernando D. Rowe, Jr.
He graduated from Charleston High School in Charleston in 1982.
Thomas was a hardworking man until he was able to retire. Known as Sergeant Johnson, he worked at the Potosi Correctional Center and the Southeast Correctional Center. He also worked at Noranda Aluminum.
In his free time, he enjoyed fishing and gardening. He loved watching football, especially his team, the Pittsburgh Steelers.
He leaves to cherish his memories his son, Montè Gardner of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, his daughter, Jennifer Brown of St. Louis, Missouri, his mother, Johnnie Mae Johnson Rowe of Charleston, Missouri, three brothers, Jermaine (Jamilla) Carter of St. Louis, Missouri, Hernando Rowe III of Bertrand, Missouri, and Moses Rowe of Charleston, Missouri, six sisters, Teresa (Eddie) Hegwood of Portage, Michigan, Mildred (Willie) Williams of East Prairie, Missouri, and Lynda (Paladin) Ware, Tammy Rowe, Cindy Rowe, and Rachel Rowe all of Charleston, Missouri, a special friend, DeWanda Dixon, and a host of grandchildren, uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 1, 2025 at 1:00 P.M. at Mercy Seat Missionary Baptist Church in Charleston with Pastor Jermaine Carter of The Word of God Christian Church in St. Louis, Missouri officiating. Interment will immediately follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Charleston with the Williams Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
